Hey Everyone, I recently completed illustrations for (2) new Splicers O.C.C.s (Metamorph & Swarmlord) in the latest Rifter#51 published by Palladiumbooks. This issue can be purchased directly through Palladiumbooks:

Splicers Guru, Chris ‘Slappy” Kluge & I developed this concept together and it was a ton of fun seeing this concept come to life. The Metamorph is one of the illustrations where I did illustrations for its 15 various forms. I decided to upload several more of the (15) forms, as I don’t want to give away everything.

The experimental Biotic variation known as the Metamorph is an attempt to augment human beings with the awesome power of Bio-Technology without forcing them to permanently surrender their humanity. The idea was that the subject would retain his human/her form and physiology when interacting with civilians back at home, but before entering the field, they would be able to quickly transform their body into a powerful Bio-Tech war machine. Metamorphs can assume various forms, some are larger than their human forms, and some are smaller. Watching a Metamorph transform into a larger form is somewhat disgusting, but witnessing one transform into a smaller creature is truly horrifying.

Centaur Form: The centaur form is a hybrid form that provides the Metamorph with impressive running speed while still allowing him to use handheld weapons. The lower body is an odd mix of a lion in the front and a equine in the back and the upper armored body looks like a more muscular version of the Metamorph’s humanoid form.

I always wondered why a Centaur creature wouldn't have longer arms...the extra limbs (four sets of legs I can get around, but I could never wrap my head around why their arms wouldn't be longer or more bestial like their legs - not saying as long as the legs just longer than human. so that they could reach the end of their flanks without difficulty or bending backwards too much. Spine and location of vital organs on a centaur creature also intrigue me... I do rather enjoy your take on this classic creature you put a lot of work into your anatomy and it shows, this is a rather interesting work here. It provokes a lot of thought. I really enjoy this one!

I actually really like the design of this one. It makes sense. The front paws give control and attack capabilty, letting him not only gut anyone he runs down, but it also lets him dig in and make sharp, precise turns, scurry up inclines and the like, while the back legs are simple hooves meant to distribute leg strength to the ground and generate steady speed. The one thing I've always wondered about with all centaurs is how good they would be at protecting their flanks. Something fast and low coming in from behind and to the side, like a wolf, could do some damage before they knew they were there. It always seems to me that their ability to torso twist quickly was limited. This would be a good splicer to put antennae on or something else for motion sensors.

Thanks Irvin!!! You really have a knack for understanding various morphology & functionality, I like that ALOT! You are very correct about the centaur form’s movement. I wanted to give this speedy form some versatility with it’s movement & physical arsenal. Instead of having to rear up to kick like a horse centaur type, this one can swipe, trip, pivot, climb better, pounce, and stalk. I didn’t want his form having to expose its belly in order to kick, and when thinking of what bio-enhancements could be added to this form, whew, I had to vote feline for the forequarters. As to its vulnerable rear, you bring up a valid concern, and this is where the bio-e purchase of antenna, additional eyes, sensors, etc. really can assist in detecting attacks, but with so many choices such as bio-force fields, tangle foot possible on the hooves, tentacles, mounted gore discharges with 180degree pivoting, etc., you can really round this form out and make it hard to ambush or approach from nearly any angle. Not to mention those hooves alone with a double kick deliver 1D4 +10 X 10, so approach at your own risk. Just imagine what heavy gun(s) you can tote on the centaur’s back that you might not have been able to carry in bipedal form. Who needs a tri-pod when you can mount a serious rifle(s) or cannon onto the back and actually be mobile, strafing major firepower from the back and using your hand held weapons (projectile and or melee) all at once. I’m very anxious to read about one of these forms at 6th or 8th level.
