This Mecha is another one I did for Palladium Books Naruni Book 2. I learned alot with this piece, interms of using graytoning. I think that it really helped our crew out alot, interms of us stretching our boundries.
I know this is asking a lot but if you can find the time would you be able to do some study drawings of the Chariot Armor? I would like to make a model of it, I'd probably end up using a lot of plasticard along with odds and ends from other model kits but the 2 other free style models that I've made have been pretty awesome (I'll have to get a couple pics of them up later this week).
I think that is something that can be done in the future. I have been requested to do some additional work on the Chariot so it really must be in the stars. I look fwd to seeing your models of what you have done previously and what you could do with the Chariot.
sorry for the delay, I dont know how I missed this comment, but I am always glad to help out when I can:
Mechs are best done from a 3 stage process.
The conceptual art approach:
First: identidy the fucntion of the mech and draw smallthumbnails, oftne silhouettes tosee whcih suites your flavor and fits the bill of the needed fucntioanlity.
Second: Choose the best thumbnails and blow them up and begin rouging in the shapes that make the armor and plate molds. Reference at this point often helps in the outcome. Such as mechanical cut lines, joints, hydraulics, gears, armor, guns, cannons, missile launchers, etc.
Finally clean-up the rough lines and make the lines smooth & clean.OR lightbox a cleaner version over the roughdraft. Adjust your contours to accent deep lines from thin ones, then add textures to the mech, via rust, dents, paint scrapes etc. unless its brand spanking new.
Then add your paint scheme & decals if need be, always being mindful of your lightsources.
Josh Nizzi & Feng Zhu have this down pact. Google them and you can get a hold of their tutorial DVDs as well.
Thanks Man!!! I am flattered. I am not really a mech guy, but I can do a thing or to when needed, lol.
I can only imagine a squadron of these flaimng wheels rolling across a dune landscape charging towards some alien colony outpost......
